Bernard J. Tay

1953-2011

Bernard J. Tay grew up in Lawrence, Massachusetts and was educated in the Lawrence public school system, attended Calvin Coolidge College and earned his Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School. He became a member of the Massachusetts Bar in 1953 while serving in the Army, during the Korean War. Upon discharge from the Army he opened an office in Lawrence, Massachusetts where he practiced until his retirement. In 1981 he was joined in practice by his son, Mark H. Tay. Bernard concentrated his practice in Personal Injury matters, while Mark assumed the criminal, civil and domestic caseload. In an effort to better serve clients who had relocated to New Hampshire, a second office was opened and has remained at its present location in Exeter, New Hampshire since 1992. While he had retired from practice several years prior to his death, he remained actively involved in the day-to-day happenings of the office.

Herman S. Tay

1915-1947

Herman S. Tay was raised in Chelsea, Massachusetts and educated in the public schools. Upon graduation from Harvard College and Harvard Law School, he was admitted to the Massachusetts bar in 1915 and began his practice in Boston, Massachusetts. He practiced law for the next 32 years until his death. He raised his family in Lawrence, Massachusetts. During his professional life, he had a varied and busy practice. He frequently offered his services without charge during the Great Depression in an era before the advent of legal assistance groups, recognizing his civic responsibility during difficult economic times.

  • All landlord/tenant matters and all matters related to manufactured housing including representation before the New Hampshire Installation Standards Board
We have extensive experience representing landlords in these highly regulated areas of the law. In New Hampshire, the Supreme Court has held that landlords are charged with knowledge of the law which means that every landlord is presumed to know the law. Inadvertent violations can carry severe penalties. We assist landlords in navigating these oftentimes treacherous waters.
